Springtime Stitches

With Spring recently sprung upon us, we see little signs of life starting to emerge from their long winter’s sleep. Even over at Steven Be’s we see all these wonderful projects happening. With the flowers and birds comes a new batch of yarn from Tilli Tomas.

70% Silk / 30% Seacell (Natural Kelp Fiber)
290 yards / 50 gms
18sts = 4” on #3 US needle

It comes in a variety of wonderful colors ready for spring wear. It also knits up fast on larger needles and looks deliciously chic when coupled with another yarn. If you’re interested in knitting with this gorgeous yarn and want to do a last minute gift for Easter, email Steven (steven@yarngarage.com) for patterns and yarn. Mention this post (Springtime Stitches) and receive a coupon for a discount on your order.

Kiss me I'm knitting!

We celebrated St. Patrick’s day with green cup cakes and cookies whilst knitting on spring related items. It’s hard to find objects that can be knitted and worn through out the warmer months, but with silk, cotton and hemp yarn it’s possible.

Steven spent time showing us a wonderful trunk show last night which consisted of new and beautiful yarns for spring wear and also some famed and coveted Signature
Needles. Steven is the only yarn store in the midwest who carries these beautiful needles. So, if you really love you’re knitting and have always wanted to own a BMW you need to just hold these needles for a sample of luxury.

*If you can find the typo in this post, email Steven (Steven@yarngarage.com) for a free pattern of your choosing on his website.

April Art Crawl

Join me on a tour of the "Mini-Apple" fiber/art scene with my friends and members. This month we are starting at Susan Hensel Gallery for "A Reader's Art" book art exhibit. It is guest-curated by New York artist, Jon Coffelt, and features 51 artist ranging from the internationally renowned to the locally emerging. Next, we will jump across the river to the Textile Center to see Metaphoric Fibers: Untamed Knitting and Crochet. The artists featured in this exhibition take the traditional art of knitting and crochet beyond function into art abstraction. Steven has donated the award to the artist for the most unique use of materials. In addition, we will view the sweaters from Rowan's 30th Anniversary Collection now on display throughout the textile center. By this time, I'll be dying for some sustenance to maintain my fiber focus so we're going to stop at Cup Cake Inc. right next door! After we've filled up the tank and recharged the battery we're off to the Ax-man to discover the uncommon, unusual, and non-traditional knitting material. And of course, the final leg is back to StevenBe for Tuesday afternoon of creative frolic with our newly acquired knitting and crocheting materials.

Mystery Fiber

Last night I dreamed that I was at the yarn garage knitting merely with all my fiber friends. All of us were knitting feverishly together on hundreds of different garments. I remarked that the sound of those clicking needles reminded me of the sound of rain. To my surprise this morning, I awoke to find it raining heavily and I had this deep desire to cast on something new since my Pikuvveli is finally finished!

We passed around a lot of fiber in the last few weeks that just gets my head buzzing with ideas. There was one fiber that Steven passed around that got all the Wednesday night knitters in a delight. Surprisingly soft to the touch and incredibly warm. If you can guess what it is, email Steven (steven@yarngarage.com) and he’ll give you 15% off your next order if you get it right.

Steven knitting & is Purl purling?

We have welcomed a new addition to our fiber family. Purl was brought to us by Caroline, who spins our signature StevenBe yarn. Purl is a French Angora bunny and she lives at StevenBe with Steven. She is 5 months old and she is adjusting well. Let's just hope Steven adjusts well, too. Come in and you may catch a glimpse of Purl hopping between the shelves.

We had a great Knitting in General event on Saturday, March 6th. Knitting in General is the General Mills knitting club. Steven works with them on their charity projects. During this special event we made the FABULOUS French Press slippers. Steven demonstrated his short cut and he made his own "Wild Thing" version. The slippers have been a big hit on Ravelry and the pattern is now available at the Yarn Garage & StevenBe. If you haven't already, you should join Ravelry. It is an amazing online knitting & crochet community.

ATTENTION ALL SIGNATURE NEEDLE FANS:
StevenBe has been chosen as the exclusive Minnesota distributor! The needles will arrive the beginning of April just in time for Spring. Be sure to stop in to see them!
