StevenBe's Amazing Adventure in Amsterdam!

Chunky knits was my theme for this past fall but didn’t get much done as life took over. Nice to see someone was on the same game plan. These were all super-chunky hand knits and crochet for the rope-like yarn we have at StevenBe. This is one of my favorite pages on Pinterest. Follow all of my boards for the latest on all these fun, fashionable fantastic trends.

This was the mood of the whole store. Very casual and strewn about. Notice in particular the mega chunky shell stitch crochet pillow in the center. All the neutral tones worked so well together. I really want to go back to this shop one more time.

The whole store was filled with these types of hand crochet and knit. I am in love. Want to make some for the store and my loft.

Love the idea of how these knits work with all the elements of style for our lives. Check out the huge cowl on the mannequin behind the flowers. All the men here are even wearing them. Also love the chandelier. The rug in the bottom left was amazing too as it was all made of felted locks like the Ozark fleeces we have.

Show and Tell: Meredith's Vintage Capelet

Meredith (idith3384 on Ravelry) made a Vintage Capelet for her wedding in 2011.

She had this to say about it.

I wanted a vintage look, but something that could keep me warm. I thought the capelet was perfect. I think my favorite part was it was easy to work up and it turned out great!! I really liked that I was able to make and wear something for my own wedding since I love to knit.

Thanks, Meredith! You look gorgeous!

Show and Tell: Kari Cowl

Annette Wright (annette414 on Ravelry) used two skeins of Knitwhits Freia Handpaints Freia Flux Worsted to make a lovely Kari Cowl by Tina Whitmore.

This is what she had to say about it.
My favorite part of knitting the project - it went incredibly fast and the pattern was very easy to memorize. Knitting is my “second” hobby (I spend more time cross stitching), so I tend to go for patterns that are impressive to look at, but deceptively easy to complete ;) This one fit the bill very nicely.
Advice: While the Freia yarn is wonderful to work with, I found it ran just a couple rows short of the pattern. It still turned out quite well and I will definitely use it again! I do plan to make another version of the cowl, just haven’t decided on the color yet.
You can read more about Annette on her blog. Thanks for sharing, Annette! Photos are from Annette's Ravelry page, and are used with her permission.

Show and Tell: Eskimo Kiss Hooded Cocoon

Jennifer Gualdoni (GoddessBNL on Ravelry) made a cute Eskimo Kiss Hooded Cocoon from the book Welcoming Home Baby The Handcrafted Way.

She had this to say about it.

I love knitting these cocoons for baby gifts for baby showers. Most of my friends are always excited for the gift since they have something for baby pictures.

This is a great project for any knitter. The color combos are so much fun, and it is a quick knit. This project usually takes me 2-4 hours at most.

Adorable! Thanks for sharing, Jennifer!

For Your Review: Merino Roving, Spun Thicker

I got my hands on another bunch of beautiful Ashland Bay Fibers Merino top, in a lovely dark green. Unlike the last time I spun it, I wanted to make a yarn that was as fluffy, soft, and cozy as possible.

So, I tore off chunks of roving and spun my singles from the fold.

After the singles were finished, I plied the yarn so that it would be nice and bouncy.

And, boy, is it!

I would call it a heavy worsted or maybe even bulky-weight. It is VERY soft, and it won't stand up to hard wear, at all, so I'll have to plan the project for it carefully. A hat, maybe? Probably more than one!

If you haven't tried spinning from the fold, you should. It's easy and a nice way to get a good handle on your fiber. Come get your hands on some of this top before I spin it all!

Show and Tell: Bellybutton Baby Blanket

Lara Neel (of the Math4Knitters podcast) designed a gorgeous baby blanket using six skeins of glorious Malabrigo Rios, a machine-washable, worsted-weight yarn that is hand-dyed and to-die-for! This is what she had to say about it:

"When I saw how this yarn just about glows with color, I knew I needed to do something that would accentuate those color changes. So, I made up a stitch pattern that's easy to work, but adds fun ripples into the design. As a bonus, the center of the blanket has a little bellybutton - I love it because it's a reminder that a baby is a new start! Of course, I think you should use this yarn, but it would also be a good stashbuster project."

Photos are from her Ravelry page, and are used with her permission. You can see more photos and other designs on her Jux page. You can buy the pattern either through Ravelry or her website

Thanks, Lara! It's so pretty!
